August shipment report conveys mixed message

RESTON, Va. — Manufacturer shipments to retailers tracked by the RV Industry Association improved in August, climbing to 27,330 units, a small gain over last month and a 3.4 percent gain over this same month last year, the group reported today.

“This was the best August shipment total in eight years and raised year-to-date totals of all RVs to 257,089 units, 4.4 percent more than the first eight months last year,” said Bill Baker, senior director of communications.

Travel trailers led all vehicle categories this month, rising 11.7 percent over this same month last year and representing nearly 66 percent of all RVs shipments.  As a group, all motorhome shipments were reported at 3,904 units, slightly less than August one year ago, but representing nearly 15 percent of all RV shipments.

However, fifth wheel shipments posted a 12.7 percent decline and Class A motorhomes also posted a 7.7 percent drop.
