Arizona ARVC to distribute campground guides at Quartzsite show

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Arizona Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (Arizona ARVC) plans to distribute camping guides for as many as 19 states during the 35th Annual Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show.

The Jan. 20 – 28 show, which typically attracts more than 150,000 snowbirds and RV enthusiasts, is one of the biggest RV shows in the country.

“Last year, on the first day, for seven hours we couldn’t sit down. We could barely keep up with everyone who requested a guide,” said Jo Ann Mickelson, executive director of Arizona ARVC.

RV enthusiasts picked up the guides so quickly that Mickelson ran out of guides for Arizona, California, Texas, Idaho, Colorado and Florida just four days into the nine-day show. She said she had to contact several state association executives to obtain more guides to distribute at the show.

Mickelson said as many as 19 state campground associations plan to send her guides to distribute on their behalf at the Quartzsite show. She said it behooves state campground associations to collaborate with one another at major RV shows.

“People want information on everywhere, not just one state,” Mickelson said.

And even though many people do their camping and travel research online, there is still plenty of demand for printed directories, which often include locator maps to help consumers find campgrounds when they are out of cellphone range.

“People still want printed material. They just do,” she said. “You can be out somewhere and not get cell service and you have no phone number, nothing. That’s when the printed guides are especially handy.”

Campground association representatives wishing to showcase their state’s campground directories at next year’s Quartzsite show should contact Mickelson at arizonaarvc@aol.com. A digital version of the 2017 Arizona RV and Camping Guide is available at GoCampingInArizona.com. The next edition of the Arizona guide will be released in April.
