BELTON, Texas — Al Lynn Oltmer, 67, owner of Sunbelt RV Center in Belton, Texas, passed away on Feb. 3 at a Temple hospital.
The former Texas RV Association’s (TRVA) president, who served for two terms, 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 and was named a TRVA Lifetime Member in 2008, was well-known for his great appreciation of good food. Oltmer also loved the RV business and enjoyed working in the affairs of its trade association, TRVA, said Phil Elam of the TRVA.
Current TRVA President P.J. Buerger of Princess Craft, Round Rock, added, “He was always very kind and very helpful as we developed our dealership.”
While Elam further noted, “I would suggest that everyone who knew Al would reflect similar descriptions of him being kind and helpful for that was just who Al Oltmer was!”
Oltmer was born on July 15, 1950, in Oceanside, California to Lavern and Margery (Nelson) Oltmer. He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Oltmer moved to Belton in 1986 and opened Sunbelt RV Center with his parents alongside the Belton KOA Campground in Belton, and he owned and operated Sunbelt until he passed away. Oltmer married Ollie Holt on November 25, 1989, in Belton. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton.
Oltmer is survived by his wife Ollie of Belton, sons Douglas Oltmer and his wife Mandy of Alabama, and Barrett Oltmer of Alabama, daughter Erika Mendoza and her husband Gil of Belton, and sister Alice Zimmerman and her husband Gary of Gatesville. Also surviving are grandchildren Shelby Oltmer, Bentley Oltmer, Hunter Oltmer, Britton Oltmer, Maddox Mendoza, and Madelyn Mendoza.
A visitation was held on Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Rev. Sam Callaway and Gary Zimmerman officiating. A burial followed at Resthaven Cemetery in Belton.
