TriMas reports second quarter financial results

(Aug. 4, 2009) -- The company reported quarterly net sales from continuing operations of $208.6 million, a decrease of 26.2 percent from the second quarter of 2008. Non-manufacturing index falls below expectations, but factory orders rise

(Aug. 5, 2009) -- The weakening was broad-based. New orders declined to 48.1 from 48.6; business activity fell to 46.1 from 49.8; and employment softened to 41.5 from 43.4. On the inflationary front, prices paid more than reversed June’s rise to 53.7, instead falling to 41.3. Online job demand holds steady in July

(Aug. 3, 2009) -- “Based on the number of unemployed relative to the number of advertised vacancies, workers looking for jobs in the management field will find it somewhat easier than those looking for sales positions,” said Levanon. In sales and related occupations, there were about four people seeking jobs in this field for every online advertised vacancy (4.2) and there were nearly five unemployed looking for work in office and administrative support positions for every advertised opening (4.8). Police recover stolen RV in California

(July 28, 2009) -- Escambia County sheriff’s investigators have uncovered a cache of stolen property, including an RV stolen from a Baldwin County lot in 2007, and are looking for a suspect from Riverview in the case. Officials estimated the value of the stolen property — which includes four-wheelers, motorcycles, trailers and the RV — at more than $300,000. Read More »

Jobless rate rises in 90 percent of metro areas, but falls in Elkhart

(July 30, 2009) -- Unemployment rates rose from May to June in 348 of more than 370 metro areas, according to an Associated Press analysis of Labor Department data released Wednesday. But, Indiana's Elkhart-Goshen region, which has been pounded by layoffs in the RV industry, saw it jobless rate drop to 16.8 percent in June, from 17.5 percent in May. Read More »
