Richland Creek hike will offer scenic rewards

(June 6, 2014) -- Camping at the Richland Creek campground in Witts Springs, Ark. will offer many scenic adventures hiking the trail that leads to Hamilton Falls and Twin Falls, where two creeks join at waterfalls into a single pool.

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. — A string of waterfalls awaits the adventuresome hiker willing to tackle the rugged terrain of the Richland Creek Wilderness Area north of Ben Hur, The Baxter Bulletin reported.

Though the hike may begin at the Richland Creek Campground, starting at the Hill Cemetery to the north of the Wilderness area rewards the hiker with several waterfalls and a less traveled path through the woods, The Baxter Bulletin explained.

Serious bushwhacking over difficult terrain down to the creek and scrambling over slippery boulders and downed trees leads to Hamilton Falls and Twin Falls (where two creeks join at waterfalls into a single pool). The Baxter Bulletin noted a person can camp between Twin Falls and fall asleep to the sound of waterfalls, or cut cross-country to the Sandstone Castles in the bluffs above the creek.
