PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Inquirer has written an editorial titled “Pistol-packing picnics.” The editorial begins: “For most tourists at Gettysburg and other hallowed battlefields and national parks, it’s going to be a shock to encounter fellow visitors carrying a loaded weapon in plain sight.
“But that’s the new reality at most of America’s national parks, thanks to a wacky plan allowing visitors to pack a gun. It was hatched during the Bush administration, and President Obama failed to fight it when he took office last year.
“As of later this month, park visitors will be able to carry firearms in accordance with the host state’s gun laws. For states like Pennsylvania, and many in the West with some of the greatest National Park Service attractions, that means few restrictions on legal gun owners in parks.”
