SALEM, Ore. — Despite concern about increased screen time and a lack of nature in the modern diet, Oregonians are going camping more than ever.
The number of camper nights at Oregon’s 57 state park campgrounds hit a new high in 2017 with 2.78 million visits. It was the third straight record-breaking year, narrowly edging the 2016 total of 2.74 million.
Outdoor recreation was something of a mix in 2017, with August’s solar eclipse bringing additional people to the outdoors, while the wildfires often kept them indoors.
