KENNESAW, Ga. — On April 16, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will kick off National Park Week with a spectacular Junior Ranger Day Celebration. Kids who register for this free event will take part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience, participating in a series of fun, educational activities and being sworn in as official Junior Rangers by National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis.
The theme of Junior Ranger Day is “Find yours in the great outdoors! Natural resources in national parks.” Kids will rotate through activity stations, including fun-filled games and hands-on exploration of natural resources. This year’s Junior Ranger Day is particularly special, as the National Park Service is celebrating its 100th anniversary and Kennesaw Mountain NBP was selected as the highlighted National Junior Ranger Day event for the Centennial. This is also the first time a National Park Service director will visit the park, and he will participate in the activities with the kids. It’s sure to be a historic celebration you won’t want to miss!
Every spring, National Park Week encourages visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation and our nation’s beauty and history during a great time of the year. The Centennial year of the National Park Service gives cause for a momentous celebration that inspires the next generation to connect with national parks.
“This is a very exciting time for youth to engage with their national parks, and we are thrilled to help local kids find their park and be a part of the Centennial Celebration. We couldn’t be more honored that Director Jarvis will celebrate National Junior Ranger Day at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park and will swear in our kids!” said Park Superintendent Nancy Walther.
There is no fee to participate in Junior Ranger Day, but registration is required. Register here or stop by the park visitor center to fill out the registration form. Registration is open through April 8, 2016. Whether you are an individual or part of Home School, YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Girl Scout or Boy Scout group, we encourage you to register and be part of Kennesaw Mountain NBP history. Don’t miss out on this special day of exploration, learning, and fun!
