IN: Ouabache building swimming beach on Kunkel Lake

BLUFFTON, Ind. — Ouabache State Park is building a swimming beach on Kunkel Lake with plans for it to open this summer.

The beach will be near the current boat and bike rental building.

During construction, Kunkel Lake will be lowered. Depending on weather and other factors, the lake should return to normal pool level in spring 2017.

The swimming beach should accommodate at least 100 people and will be free to visitors after paying park entrance fees. It will not have a lifeguard.

The swimming pool at the park will also be open for the 2017 recreation season with a lifeguarding staff.

  1. We are at Oubache State Park July 15, beach is still under construction, lake is still lowered, boat and bike rental is closed, fire tower still closed and under repair. Pool open. Trails open. My guess is “spring 2017” was an overly ambitious objective.
