Illinois Beach State Park storm damage cleanup continues

(July 18, 2011) -- Portions of Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park in Lake County remain closed as cleanup continues from another round of severe storms last week in northeast Illinois.

ZION, Ill. – Portions of Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park (IBSP) in Lake County remain closed as cleanup continues from another round of severe storms last week in northeast Illinois.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) crews are working as quickly as possible to remove downed trees, limbs and other storm debris and storm-related public safety hazards that resulted from severe storms on June 30 and July 11.

Beach access is open through the IBSP North Unit, but parking is limited and North Unit trails are closed.

The IBSP South Unit remains closed, including the campground, trails and day-use areas. Individuals with campground reservations can receive a refund through the online campsite reservation system at www.reserveamerica.com.

The Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center is open after power was restored to the facility. The swimming pool at the resort is closed due to storm damage, and the resort’s outdoor banquet tent was also damaged in the July 11 storm.

Because of continuing problems with the phone system at Illinois Beach State Park, calls can be referred to the IDNR Region 2 office at 847-608-3100.

For the latest updates on the status of closures at these or other IDNR facilities, please visit www.dnr.illinois.gov .
