IA: Man’s death sparks debate of safety at state parks

(Jan. 4, 2017) -- The death of an Iowa man on Jan. 1 has sparked discussion about safety at a popular bluff overlook at Ledges State Park.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The death of an Iowa man on Jan. 1 has sparked discussion about safety at a popular bluff overlook at Ledges State Park.

Park Ranger Klint Peterson said Danny Dean Carlile, 63, of Ames left the trail to take photos on the overlook called Solstice Rock, lost his footing and fell to the riverbank below.

Four hikers have fallen there in the last 18 months.
