Council votes to upgrade cameras at park

(Aug. 6, 2014) -- The Carmi City Council voted unanimously at its regular meeting Monday evening to upgrade its surveillance cameras at Burrell Park in Carmi, Ill.

CARMI, Ill. — The Carmi City Council voted unanimously at its regular meeting Monday evening to upgrade its surveillance cameras at Burrell Park, The Carmi Times reported.

Mayor Jeff Pollard told The Carmi Times there has been an increase in incidences of vandalism as well as non-campers using the campsite showers. In at least two instances, paid campers have went to the shower room to find mixed-sex couples using the facilities.

Many of the council members expressed a desire to protect the investments the city is making in the park. The Carmi Times explained new playground equipment has been installed and the pond is being expanded.
