Big Cypress National Preserve wildfire 25 percent contained, campground still closed

(March 13, 2018) -- The fire did not grow in size since Sunday, but parts of the park, including campgrounds and trails, remained closed Monday, said Robert Duggan, a public information officer for the blaze, dubbed the Anhinga Fire.

NAPLES, Fla. — A 3,019-acre brush fire raging in Big Cypress National Preserve was 25 percent contained Monday, officials said.

The fire did not grow in size since Sunday, but parts of the park, including campgrounds and trails, remained closed Monday, said Robert Duggan, a public information officer for the blaze, dubbed the Anhinga Fire.

The cause of the fire, which started March 8, is still undetermined, he said.
