ARVC to join RVIA in Capitol Hill advocacy day meetings

(May 7, 2015) — Top government affairs representatives from the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (ARVC) plan to join their counterparts from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) June 3 in face-to-face meetings with members of Congress.

DENVER, Colo. — Top government affairs representatives from the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds (ARVC) plan to join their counterparts from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) June 3 in face-to-face meetings with members of Congress, a press release from the organization stated.

RVIA’s Capitol Hill Advocacy Day is always one of the most popular events during RVIA’s Committee Week and is vitally important to the industry’s lobbying efforts at the federal level, the release stated.

On Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, RVIA members visit with members of Congress and their staff to increase awareness of the RV industry at the federal level and focus attention on issues that impact the RV market. The Government Affairs staff at RVIA schedules these appointments, provides briefing materials, and accompanies members on visits.

Capitol Hill Advocacy Day is being enhanced this year with the day being capped by a special inaugural reception honoring the Senate RV Caucus featuring special guests Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN), who co-chair the group.

A hearing room in the Hart Senate Office Building will be transformed into a campground setting where RVIA members will mingle with special guests from the U.S. Senate, Capitol Hill staff and allied trade associations.

The reception will feature four campfire-like settings with different themes around the reception room, which guests will visit while enjoying a picnic atmosphere. Each campfire will be hosted by industry leaders from segments of the great American RV experience. The campground industry will be hosted by Deb Carter, owner, Buttonwood Beach RV Resort, Earleville, Md., and Jeff Sims, ARVC’s director of state relations and program advocacy.

Members of ARVC’s Public Affairs Committee plan to evaluate the collaborative effectiveness of the meetings and may recommend including them in future ARVC National Issues Conferences, said Paul Bambei, ARVC’s president and CEO.

“While many industries include a day on Capitol Hill as part of their annual meetings in DC, very few can claim the widespread success of our Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, which has raised the profile of both the RV industry and RVIA in the eyes of Congress,” said RVIA President Richard Coon.

In the past few years alone, the relationships cemented at Advocacy Day have increased membership in the House RV Caucus, facilitated Congressional support for the axle weight increase for motorhomes, the renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), the motorhome sales tax deduction, the SBA pilot program, and several other industry initiatives.
