Regulators adopt new attitudes toward financing
Excellent recap of what is happening to us! by Bernie
It's Tax Day -- Let's party like we work for GSA!
I consider myself a reasonably smart human being, but no matter how much I read about this government and how f'd up it is no one seams to have the answers. Can anyone tell me what else I can do, as a hard working American who is sick to his stomach, besides vote, because that isn't enough. I know the problem, tell me the answer. My thought is it will take someone with the biggest set of balls known to mankind to clean house. Looking for some answers, and I am all ears by Joseph Bullyan
It's Tax Day -- Let's party like we work for GSA!
And we wonder why our budget is out of control?!!? OMG!!!! We are to blame though - we keep electing the same members to the most exclusive country club in the world! They are exempt from most laws, get everything paid for by the taxpayer and are set for life - while we just keep struggling to pay them for that luxury!Worse, our two presidential candidates will raise over half a BILLION Dollars to convince us to vote for them! Actually worse - we'll contribute to them and elect them!Shame on us ... by Bernie
Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
It would be interesting to know what the Board members that didn't vote yes on going into China thought and are they RV mfg. or suppliers? If any of them are suppliers they must have all their products made there already! by Tony
Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
As a follow-up on this discussion, there was a very interesting article in the Washington Post last week and it was reprinted in the Boston Sunday Globe this past weekend. The article is titled: "China may buy only domestic cars for official use." You can read the article at: http://b.globe.com/GTIu6A Many of the comments at the Post and Globe indicate that there is nothing wrong with a country doing this - and I agree with them. We do the same thing here in America at the federal and state ... by Bob Zagami
Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
As always, Bob has done his homework and presents a great editorial. I just can't see any benefit to having anything to do with The "China" Connection. I can't think of any Industry that has actually "benefited" it's American workers by joining with China.An American purchaser of an RV has multiple choices of types, options and price already! Why add an Asian Product to that mix - that will only hurt American made products - as it always has in the past. High tech products are mass produced and ... by Bernie
Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
Bob, you’re right on!

The Chinese government cannot be trusted and they abuse their people terribly. If an RV manufacture decides to “dance” with a partner in China, it will be the fire dance, and it won’t be China that gets burned!

The Chinese even knock off websites
I don't see a major problem with it.I just type the name then hit Ctrl & Enter and it goes to the dot com.Can not see why I would even type dot com then dot cn. by Wayne
The Chinese even knock off websites
This trick happens in all countries. Not limitied to China. It's cyber siting and tech it is illegal but that doesn't stop anyone from doing it.

If you are building a "brand" you often want to buy every version of your domain. Because even if you can get all of those domains back with the law from the people sitting on them it is just safer to own them all up front if you can.

Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
Point of clarification from Jim this morning, the China Committee vote was unanimous but the Board of Directors vote was not.

Also, the sentence in the third pargraph from the bottom should have read, "We will continue to monitor China, not to prove somebody wrong, but to honestly report the information we get on the abuses we expect to see despite the best laid plans of RVIA." by Bob Zagami

Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
By Bob Zagami @ 8:43 PM :: :: 5 Comments :: Article Rating
During the past week I have had wonderful conversations with Jim Ashurst, Craig Kirby and Wilbur Botranger on the recent RVIA decision to open an office in China.  Through the years we have been, and continue to be, very vocal against any engagement with a company that does not respect America, does not respect its people, and plays by a different set of rules than most civilized nations.

To RPTIA: Don't give up your independence!
By Bob Zagami @ 10:23 PM :: :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating

Why would RPTIA members want to rejoin RVIA?  Kicked to the curb several years ago, and used and abused by RVIA to suit their fancy; why would you ever want to go back under that roof in Reston?

Guns and RVers . . . making it easy to kill!
By Bob Zagami @ 5:10 AM :: :: 12 Comments :: Article Rating

I’ve been RVing for over thirty years and can probably count the number of people that told me they carry a gun in their RV on both hands and not use all my fingers. So you can imagine my surprise when a recent article in Trailer Life (October 2011) claimed that recent market research indicates more than 70% of all RVers own a handgun for personal protection. I would like to see that research!

First, I do not believe for a minute that 70% of all RVers carry a handgun. I’ve never met anybody in a campground or RV resort that told me they have a gun onboard. Now I’m sure several do and they would prefer not to advertise how they choose to protect themselves and their loved ones. But 70% of them? Never

21 Years and thrown out with the trash?
By Bob Zagami @ 1:05 AM :: :: 6 Comments :: Article Rating

A major decision impacting the image of the RV industry was made in Reston, VA several months ago, but nobody said anything. Then this week we have only one RV related media outlet reporting what RVIA has known for quite some time … the company that was responsible for the public perception of the RV industry the past twenty-one years was just thrown out with the trash! How is it that RVBusiness.com quietly slipped this into their news items on Monday and the rest of us have nothing explaining what is going on behind closed doors in Reston?

Fill out the DSI survey -- I dare you!
By Bob Zagami @ 9:57 AM :: :: 4 Comments :: Article Rating

There are very few industries that allow dealers to evaluate and report on the manufacturers they buy products from. We are very fortunate in the RV industry to have a professional association that does just this for their dealer members. Time is running out for RV dealers to complete the 18th Annual Dealer Satisfaction Index Survey that is due by July 1st – less than a week away. If you are an RV dealer and have still not filled out the survey . . . . . read on!

This self-evaluation of our industry provides a roadmap of the things that are critical to the survival of our industry in challenging times. If we can’t do the things being evaluated here, then consumers will reject our products and move on to another form of recreation or vacation travel that will not include an RV.

The Feeble Minded Folks at FEMA - You can’t make this stuff up!
By Bob Zagami @ 1:24 AM :: :: 3 Comments :: Article Rating

On September 29, 2007 I submitted a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request to FEMA for certain documents around the controversy of formaldehyde in the trailers shipped to the Gulf Coast to help those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

The reason for requesting the documentation was to defend the RV industry and the manufacturers that responded to the needs of the citizens that required temporary housing as they rebuilt their lives post Katrina.

The feeble minded folks at FEMA finally responded; three and a half years later! And people wonder why we criticize big government?

Woodall's Out of Touch Once Again
By Bob Zagami @ 3:02 PM :: :: 8 Comments :: Article Rating

We don't sit back and wait for AGI, Woodall's, Camping World or the Bad Sam Club to do something stupid so we can write about it.  They just go ahead and do something stupid on their own, and THEN we write about it.  The latest example of just how out of touch they can be with our industry is Woodall's "Vote For Your Favorite Campground" contest that is in full swing.  I published this information in my consumer blog last week and then received the March-April issue of RV Business to read even more about the contest.  Campground owners beware!  The wolf has come out of the woods once again and he's not looking for Grandma's house - he's looking for your customers!

I’m with Marcus on this one . . . . .
By Bob Zagami @ 12:38 AM :: :: 6 Comments :: Article Rating

We may not agree on many things in this industry, but we are certainly on the same page when it comes to preserving and protecting the investments that have been made in the RV/MH Hall of Fame and Museum.
As the least significant person in the RV industry, and one who was not invited to the meeting this week, let me add my comments to those that have been quoted in the press and on the Internet on this important issue.

Tinker Bell alive and well in Lincolnshire - Recently seen sprinkling fairy dust over Camping World and Woodall’s . . . . .
By Bob Zagami @ 3:34 AM :: :: 5 Comments :: Article Rating

When I posted a comment to Greg’s original story this week (http://bit.ly/gCFAEh) there was a quick response from a member of the Camping World fan club, Stultus Sam, who wrote, “Seriously buddy, don’t waste your time. No one cares. We already know you have an irrational hatred of all things Affinity. Save yourself a few hours and go read a book or do something useful with your time.”  Do you think I took his/her advice?

Did you see what I saw? Did you hear what I heard?
By Bob Zagami @ 2:55 AM :: :: 7 Comments :: Article Rating

Were you among the millions of people that watched the Daytona 500 today? What a great Cinderella story for Trevor Bayne a day after his 20th birthday. NASCAR is an RVers dream, with over 10,000 RVs at each race and with a special driver’s lot for their luxury motorcoaches.

Did you also happen to see the Camping World/Good Sam Club commercial just before the green flag was dropped to start the spectacular race? Read on . . . . .
