Regulators adopt new attitudes toward financing
Excellent recap of what is happening to us! by Bernie
It's Tax Day -- Let's party like we work for GSA!
I consider myself a reasonably smart human being, but no matter how much I read about this government and how f'd up it is no one seams to have the answers. Can anyone tell me what else I can do, as a hard working American who is sick to his stomach, besides vote, because that isn't enough. I know the problem, tell me the answer. My thought is it will take someone with the biggest set of balls known to mankind to clean house. Looking for some answers, and I am all ears by Joseph Bullyan
It's Tax Day -- Let's party like we work for GSA!
And we wonder why our budget is out of control?!!? OMG!!!! We are to blame though - we keep electing the same members to the most exclusive country club in the world! They are exempt from most laws, get everything paid for by the taxpayer and are set for life - while we just keep struggling to pay them for that luxury!Worse, our two presidential candidates will raise over half a BILLION Dollars to convince us to vote for them! Actually worse - we'll contribute to them and elect them!Shame on us ... by Bernie
Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
It would be interesting to know what the Board members that didn't vote yes on going into China thought and are they RV mfg. or suppliers? If any of them are suppliers they must have all their products made there already! by Tony
Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
As a follow-up on this discussion, there was a very interesting article in the Washington Post last week and it was reprinted in the Boston Sunday Globe this past weekend. The article is titled: "China may buy only domestic cars for official use." You can read the article at: http://b.globe.com/GTIu6A Many of the comments at the Post and Globe indicate that there is nothing wrong with a country doing this - and I agree with them. We do the same thing here in America at the federal and state ... by Bob Zagami
Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
As always, Bob has done his homework and presents a great editorial. I just can't see any benefit to having anything to do with The "China" Connection. I can't think of any Industry that has actually "benefited" it's American workers by joining with China. An American purchaser of an RV has multiple choices of types, options and price already! Why add an Asian Product to that mix - that will only hurt American made products - as it always has in the past. High tech products are mass produced and ... by Bernie

Bob, you’re right on!

The Chinese government cannot be trusted and they abuse their people terribly. If an RV manufacture decides to “dance” with a partner in China, it will be the fire dance, and it won’t be China that gets burned!

The Chinese even knock off websites
I don't see a major problem with it.I just type the name then hit Ctrl & Enter and it goes to the dot com.Can not see why I would even type dot com then dot cn. by Wayne
The Chinese even knock off websites
This trick happens in all countries. Not limitied to China. It's cyber siting and tech it is illegal but that doesn't stop anyone from doing it.

If you are building a "brand" you often want to buy every version of your domain. Because even if you can get all of those domains back with the law from the people sitting on them it is just safer to own them all up front if you can.

Australia, Europe, China . . . . pick two!
Point of clarification from Jim this morning, the China Committee vote was unanimous but the Board of Directors vote was not.

Also, the sentence in the third pargraph from the bottom should have read, "We will continue to monitor China, not to prove somebody wrong, but to honestly report the information we get on the abuses we expect to see despite the best laid plans of RVIA." by Bob Zagami

Woodall's Out of Touch Once Again
By Bob Zagami @ 3:02 PM :: :: 8 Comments :: Article Rating

Do you ever sit back and wonder what senior management does in large corporations when they are making decisions that impact their customers? Let's face it; we all do.

It was just a few weeks ago when I blogged about the relationship of Woodall's and The Bad Sam Club with their efforts to entice campground owners to sign up for special one-sided program and you can bet the campgrounds were not on the winning side of that idea.

So now just a few weeks later the incredibly lame marketing folks over at Woodall's, who now come under Marcus Lemonis, CEO of The Affinity Group, have posted a new contest at www.woodalls.com.

The headline for this contest says; "Woodall's is Searching for North America's Favorite Campground - Tell Us Your Favorite and You Could Win a 7-Day Hawaiian Cruise for 2!" You can see the graphic they have created to entice you to enter their contest. We are campers, RVers, and we love the RV industry - if we want to go on a cruise we can make that decision on our own.

To have an RV company award a cruise instead on an RV related prize just shows how out of touch they are with their customers!

The article in RV Business states; "Every privately owned park listed in the 2011 Woodall's North American Campground Directory has received or will receive a kit containing signs to promote the contest and a personalized cell phone code for voters to text their entries."  The marketing is clever, but is it just another way for Good Sam Enterprises to find out WHO YOUR CUSTOMERS are?

If I owned a campground I would throw the contest kit in the dumpster.  Your client information is just that, yours!

So why would this corporation, that claims to be a camper's best friend, give away a prize that competes against every campground owner in this country? I don't know about you, but I don't want to go on a cruise; I want to go camping! If you are really trying to find out which campground gets rated the highest by your customers, then why don't you give them a seven day stay at THAT CAMPGROUND? Not in the middle of the ocean on a cruise ship!

To make matters worse, they further insult you by making website visitors fill out a form before you can enter the contest. You can bet all this information is going to go into the master Bad Sam Club/AGI database so they can then promote THEIR affiliated campgrounds and send them the Camping World catalogs to take even more business away from your supply store at YOUR campground?

I wonder who was at the table when the marketing geniuses presented this idea to Marcus and his minions? Who raised their hand and said this was a great idea? Who was it that thinks sending people off on a cruise (a competing industry to the RV industry) is a fantastic promotion? Did anybody in the room suggest th

it's a good thing there's nothing else in the RV Industry for you to blog on but yet another bashing of a Affinity marketing idea. Did it ever occur to you that maybe some full time RV'ers would like a break from their RV and take a cruise? Or maybe, just maybe Bob, its been someones life long dream to visit Hawaii and they just couldn't afford it? Or even the possibilty they have wanted to have the experience of being on a cruise ship. Geez Bob, just cause were RV'ers doesn't mean we are confined to our RV's 24/7!!! No I haven't missed the point of your article, but c'mon Bob really???

Bob - You have hit it right on the head! More of Affinity Group out of touch with dealers and campgrounds. Why not give away $1,000 in gas - that would get you down the road a while in your RV. Oh no, let's park the RV and fly to Hawaii - where we'll cruise! I just talked to an avid RVer who said a two week trip in his RV to Alaska was the absolute highlight of his life. He didn't say a word about trips to Hawaii on crowded rude airlines or staying in over-priced hotels or being captive on a cruise liner. Why campgrounds and RV dealers keep supporting Affinity Group enterprises is mind boggling!

Holy cow! I should not be surpirsed. Those guys have done it before, and it worked. Of course they'll try it again, and they will get thousands of new names and details. Hats off to them on an aggressive move that will get them more business. I wouldn't do such a brazen move myself, but it is a brilliant move. It would have been nice if they had at least offered the week or two for free at the campsite of your choice for the winner (ie. instead of the cruise).<br /><br />Some campgrounds will certainly display the material and lose business as a result.

I have to admit, I think the idea of awarding a CRUISE in a campground contest seems really stupid. I don't know about you, but I cringe every time I have to stay in a hotel and would do anything to be able to take my RV whenever that is a possibility. You see, I KNOW who has slept in my bed, and I KNOW I have clean sheets, and I KNOW that I don't have (*ICK*) bedbugs! Yes, a Hawaiin cruise would be cool, but I'd much rather win an RV vacation (with some diesel money) to a fabulous campground. RVing is a "family" event. I bought my RV so that I could take my kids and my dogs with me. What good is a Hawaiian vacation for TWO when I have FIVE in my family? <br /><br />Additionally, the ONLY campgrounds you can vote for are those that advertise in their directory. That doesn't come close to the numbers of campgrounds that are actually out there for folks to enjoy. Two of my favorites in Wisconsin are NOT listed. If this were a REAL contest, they'd let folks put in the name and address of their favorite campground, period. Why the restriction? <br /><br />I'm with you on this one, Bob.

The only one out of touch is you for thinking anyone cares.

Bob, I'm guessing you are not a campground owner and haven't spoken to one in awhile. Or maybe you work for Woodall's and are one of the many lost souls over there that truly see nothing wrong with this promotion or the damage it can do to independent, hard working, and honest campground owners. You have every right to feel this way and we appreciate all comments, those that agree with our message and those that think we are out of touch. Thank you for contributing with your thoughts on the subject.

Totally expected that type of answer from you. Someone who disagrees with your biased opinion toward the Affinity Group must be working for them. You have to be smarter than that, but apparently not.<br /><br />Unike you, I work with independent, honest, hardworking campground owners every day and most are much more focused on serving their customers, providing a great experience for their guests, and making a living to support their families, not wringing their hands over a Woodall's promotion.<br /><br />They are not the enemy Bob so keep fighting windmills.

I would like to say a few things about Mr. Lemonis and this isn't Lemonis bashing either. Every word of my comment was dictated from my pocket voice recorder during the latest Camping World/Good Sam"State of the company" address. The fact that I work in Mr. Lemonis' inner circle doesn't mean I like him or anything he stands for. This may come as quite a shock to the fans of woodalls but I need to make a comment on your new C.E.O. Mr. Marcus Lemonis. For those of you out there that didn't have the pleasure of attending the Camping World/Good Sam "State of the company address" let me give you some insight as to what took place at this event. These are direct quotes from Mr. Marcus Lemonis. He said " I care about my employees more than I care about my customers because keeping my employees happy equates to good customer service. You take care of your employees and your employees with take care of your customers."<br />"I would rather cut heads then my employees salary's." and then he said" Everybody in this room, we will find a home for you, another job in the company, another job somewhere else." it was just before that meeting when Mr. Liar Lemonis cut one third of his employee roster and six more since last Friday. He is out of control!! Everything that Lemonis said he wasn't going to do, He implemented the very next day. Do you know how hard it was for me knowing exactly what he was going to do, a week before he did it? I was disgusted with myself for knowing and working with Lemonis but someone has to schedule his flight itinerary on Steve Adams private jet.<br />I wonder if Steve Adams is praying for death now that he has been witness to the "Jim Jones, drink your punch propaganda!" <br />I don't want you to think for one second that this is Marcus bashing, that comes from his employees on a lower level. The very same employees that were promised Marcus' famous red shoes and the same employees that were told directly from this man's, excuse me' "cowards mouth." I'm here for you if you ever need anything, my cell number is located on my web page and I take all my calls.<br /><br />Their will be more to come as long as Mr. Gerber, my favorite blogger ever doesn't censor my words.<br /> <br />P.S. did you know that he cut out all employee severance packages before he let them go! What a Jerk!<br /> <br /><br /> yours truly,<br /><br /> Christina Chambers!<br />
