ROCHE PERCEE, Sask. -- Rick and Sheila Farstad became the first campers to use the Roche Percee campgrounds in late July, Saskatchewan Lifestyles reported.
Tours and Trails chair Mary Rose Boyer didn't think campers would arrive so quickly when the committee started to restore the park earlier this year. In fact, she didn't expect to see the first campers until next summer.
“But with the way that people have come out and helped, and volunteered their time and equipment, and given us a little bit of cash, we can say that we can have at least the spots there for campers,” said Boyer.
The first sites to be opened are not electrified, but that will likely change when the larger campground opens next year. Interest is high, Boyer told the magazine. When she was mowing grass in the smaller campground July 25, she had trouble finding time to work because people were stopping to ask when the sites would be ready and how much it would cost.
