ERIE COUNTY, Penn. -- Erie County Judge Shad Connelly issued an extension to his court order that required the Moon Meadows Campground to close Tuesday because owner Thomas Peckham failed to complete mandated sewer improvements, the Erie Times-News reported.
Sheriff deputies told residents they had been given another day, but eventually they would be forced to move out. But, deputies also wanted to inform Peckham that Connelly wanted to meet with him yesterday afternoon. Deputies searched the campground and waited two hours for him to arrive. When he didn't, they notified Connelly, who then issued a bench warrant for his arrest on contempt charges, the Times-News reported.
"I knew they would arrest me and make a big show out of it, so I went for a drive," Peckham said. "I'll turn myself in (this) morning after I get done playing racquetball."
After inspecting the campground, County Health Department Director Andy Glass said the facility still had not pumped out the dump station, removed substandard septic work and repaired multiple sewage malfunctions, the Times-News noted.
