WEST FORK, Ark. -- People vacationing at Arkansas state parks will be paying a little more after the Arkansas Park, Recreation, and Travel commission tentatively approved increases to lodging and camping fees, KHBS-TV reported.
Park officials said fewer people have been using lodging and camping services so they need to make up that lost revenue. They said rate increase will generate about $1 million a year in revenue.
Devils Den Park Superintendent Monte Fuller told the station the rate hikes allow the parks to make the same amount of money they normally make, even if people aren't staying as long.
"If they cut a day or two off their vacation they're still going to spend the same amount of money here,” Fuller said.
State parks still haven't determined how much the rates will increase. Presently, camping fees range from $10 to $30 a night. New fees will got into effect. Jan. 1.
