MERCEDES, Texas -- Now that two drainage gates on a levee are leaking, and water is flowing into the Llano Grande RV Park, residents there are getting a bit nervous, KRGV-TV reported.
About 300 Winter Texans live in the park year round. They old reporters the dirty and stinky water remains on their streets after a week, and nobody is telling them why it's there or when it will go away.
The RVers are worried the water could make them sick. "What's in it? What kind of bacteria is it harboring? Is there any danger to those of us especially elderly people with weakened immune systems? Is there anything in here that's going to harm us?" asked resident Sherrie Weaver.
Officials with the International Boundary and Water Commission, which owns the levee, claim the water flow is under control.
