DETROIT -- Ford Motor Company plans to introduce its first diesel engine into the heavy-duty pickup truck segment, according to the Oakland Press.
The engine will power Ford's new F-Series Super Duty truck. The decision was made after the firm's longtime relationship with Navistar ended in a series of accusations and lawsuits over pricing, specifications, quality standards and warranty costs, the paper reported.
Ford already owned the rights to the “Power Stroke” name used on the Navistar engine. European engineers have been working with U.S. engineers familiar with diesel engines to develop the new model.
The Ford F-Series Super Duty equipped with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel engine with 390 horsepower averages an 18 percent improvement for pickup models and up to 25 percent improvement for chassis cabs versus 2010 models, Chris Brewer, F-Series chief engineer, told the Oakland Press.
