KINGSTON, N.Y. -- The state Department of Environmental Conservation has been asked to release information on whether campgrounds and other facilities it oversees could be targeted for closure or reduced operations in Gov. David Paterson’s budget proposal.
State Assemblymen Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston, and Robert Sweeney, D-Lindenhurst, who chairs the Assembly’s Environmental Conservation Committee, said in a press release they had sent a letter to the department requesting the information.
“If the Department of Environmental Conservation made plans to shut down a number of their facilities, this information needs to be available,” Cahill said. “Families depend on these places to provide accessible environmental activities. They are the lifeblood of nearby small businesses that rely on tourism.”
