GURNEE, Ill. -- Village trustees clamped down on off-street parking and RV storage this week in residential neighborhoods, the Lake County News-Sun reported.
The two ordinances adopted Monday take effect immediately. One requires RV owners to register their vehicles with the village, and the other limits where RVs and haul trailers can be parked.
The ordinance allows for one RV or trailer to be stored on a residential lot less than 40,000 square feet in size. Lots larger than 40,000 square feet can store two RVs or trailers. However, the units must be parked on either asphalt, crushed stone or brick pavers -- but not concrete -- and free of weeds or grass.
The issue is further complicated because people in lots less than 40,000 square feet with only one RV are exempt from the vehicle registration. Yet, they must pay $25 for a sticker for every additional RV over one that they own.
Any new, unregistered RVs or haul trailers purchased after the nine-month registration period must be stored inside an enclosed structure, or stored off the residential property, the News-Sun reported.
