DONALSONVILLE, Ga. -- Big changes are on the horizon for Trail’s End Resort and Marina, which on April 1st becomes the second RV resort in Georgia to join the Jellystone Park Camp-Resort chain.
While the park has gained distinction as the only one in the country to offer floating condos, the resort is working intensively to double its number of campsites and develop a full-slate of fun family activities and themed weekends in anticipation of joining the nation’s second largest campground chain.
“We’re very excited about becoming a Jellystone Park,” said resort manager Tracy Smith, adding that there is a shortage of family oriented parks with activities for children in the south Georgia area.
The park is being renamed Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park at Trail’s End, and when the expansion is completed, Smith said the park will feature 39 campsites 19 of which have 30- or 50-amp electrical service in addition to water and sewage hookups. There will be 20 16-by-16-foot primitive tent sites available also. Wi-Fi service is available at the restaurant and general store. Cable television hookups will also be added this year.
The park also offers rental accommodations, including nine cabins and six floating condos on Lake Seminole, one of the most popular locations for bass and catfish fishing in Georgia.
The park also plans to offer fun family activities throughout the camping season, including arts and crafts classes, ice cream socials, water activities, family movie and Karaoke nights as well as themed weekends. Of course, all these activities will have an extra element of fun with Yogi Bear participating. Yogi will be on site daily to greet campers, pose for photo ops and take part in events.
The park will launch this year’s camping season with special activities over Easter weekend, including a nighttime flashlight Easter egg hunt and a scavenger hunt. More than 40 other themed weekends are being planned, with special events including Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, Mardi Gras, Christmas in July, Western, Pirate and Hillbilly Ho Down weekends.
Additional park improvements being planned for later this year include construction of an ampitheatre and playground and the remodeling of the camp store and game room, Smith said. This year’s improvements will likely cost between $50,000 and $100,000, she said.
Smith said the franchise website at CampJellystone.com is already helping to generate reservations and inquiries for the park. “We’ve had people calling all the way from Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania,” she said.
