FLORIDA KEYS, Fla. -- Not long ago, the 28-acre Lazy Lakes RV Resort had been slated for condo construction. However, when housing values declined, the bulldozer was stopped in its tracks. Today the land is part RV park, part outdoor music venue, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
"RV parks were on an endangered species list, but the recession ended that," Lazy Lakes' owner Joe Cleghorn told the paper. He paid $8 million three years ago to acquire the mortgage from Cortex Acquisition Ltd.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, it's tropical landscape and an adjacent nature preserve makes Lazy Lakes RV Resort a prime property for development.
The resort's manager, Linda Fay, told the paper she's thankful the campground was spared. It's built around a man-made, seven-acre 30-foot-deep saltwater lake bristling with a variety of marine life.
