BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- After the air conditioner stopped working on a rented motorhome, Todd Brendlin received a nearly $5,300 judgment this week against Open Road RV and its owner, Jeff Collins, the Bakersfield Californian reported.
Brendlin, and his wife, Erin, 39, and their two children: Trevor, 12, and Keely, 9, started out on a journey to Yellowstone National Park. But somewhere between Barstow and Baker, the unit's air conditioner stopped working. It was 113 degrees outside and perhaps another 10 degrees hotter inside the motorhome, Brendlin told the paper.
When contacted, Collins suggested possible fixes, then advised the family to continue to Las Vegas, where the problem could be addressed.
Instead of getting the unit fixed, which Brendlin estimated would cost $3,700, the left the RV at a dealership and rented another unit from El Monte RV of Las Vegas, whose manager gave the family a free night's rental.
