SEATTLE -- Families everywhere dream of taking a year off and traveling around the United States. The Bacon family actually did it. They packed up a 40-foot Monaco Knight diesel RV and visited all the American icons from Mount Rushmore to Kitty Hawk to the OK Corral.
Parents Beth and Dan Bacon homeschooled the children while on the road. Along the way, they handed out t-shirts with a picture of the United States made out of bacon and created an extensive web site atwww.BaconAcrossAmerica.com.
"The trip was amazing, this country has so many fascinating places--more than 140 National Parks," said Dan Bacon. Their RV took them to all 48 continental states. They flew to Alaska and Hawaii. The family saved and planned for six years but now it's back to work and school for the family.
With the trip now complete, their green-and-gold RV is for sale. The 2007 Monaco Knight is powered by a Cummins ISC 330 engine. The floor plan is unique, sleeping 5 with an office and window in the back. Some of the family's favorite features include the Sleep Number mattress in the master bedroom, the huge no-seam windshield, ample storage and the one-button sewage macerator.
The Bacon's RV can be seen at the Seattle RV and Outdoor Recreation Show at Quest Field in Seattle, Feb. 11-14.
