LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Designed and engineered to meet the demands of motorhome manufacturers, Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) introduced today the FCCC S2 cutaway motorhome chassis at the 2010 National RV Trade Show.
The S2 cutaway boasts the same reliability, durability and maneuverability customers have come to expect from an FCCC chassis, said Jonathan Randall, director of sales and marketing. Plus, the new S2 cutaway chassis includes the additional benefit of being nearly complete, allowing manufacturers an easier build.
“The S2 cutaway motorhome chassis is a new venture for FCCC,” said Randall. “We designed and engineered the S2 cutaway because there was an opportunity for a superior cutaway chassis product in the motorhome market, and we knew we had a solution that would meet OEMs’ and customers’ needs.”
Equipped with an EPA 2010 Cummins ISB 6.7-liter engine with up to 340 hp and an Allison automatic six-speed transmission, the FCCC S2 cutaway has outstanding power and performance.
Cummins 2010 engines utilize selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, which is proven to meet long-term EPA 2010 emissions requirements by dramatically reducing nitrous oxide (NOx), particulate matter and fine particle emissions without increasing fuel consumption as do alternative methods, said Randall.
The FCCC S2 cutaway provides motorhome manufacturers the option to customize the coach to fit customers’ tastes, while also satisfying OEMs’ production needs for ease of build. RV manufacturers can add or remove certain cab amenities, including the rear wall, allowing for a fully customized product.
“Motorhome manufacturers today need a chassis product that makes it easier for them to build upon,” said Tony Sippel, FCCC RV product manager. “The S2 cab cutaway allows the RV OEMs to take a nearly complete cab, and customize it to best meet the desires of their customers. It’s a win-win situation for both the RV owner, who gets the product they want, and the OEM, who gets a cab that is nearly complete.”
The S2 cutaway features a driver-controlled lockout feature, preventing motorhome owners from driving their RV without properly stowing slide outs, jacks, antennas and awnings. Tuned suspensions, as well as match-marked tires, offer a superior ride for travelers who spend long amounts of time on the road.
Recognizing that maneuverability and safety is a primary concern for RV pilots, the S2 cutaway features a windshield that is 20 percent larger compared with other cutaway RVs in the marketplace. The larger windshield contributes to up to 50 percent better over-the-hood visibility, reducing blind spots and the potential for accidents.
The FCCC S2 cutaway features a 55-degree wheel cut, allowing for pilots to maneuver through tight spots, including parking spaces and inner-city travel.
The front-engine diesel S2 cutaway features a sloped hood for easy engine access and visibility. Built on a sturdy steel frame to reduce flex and bowing, minimize coach stress and keep the driver and passengers comfortable, the FCCC S2 cutaway motorhome chassis also features a complete dashboard with steering capabilities.
The new FCCC S2 cutaway can be seen in Freightliner's display at Booth 1434 at the 2010 National RV Trade Show at the Kentucky Expo Center.
The FCCC S2 cutaway will be available for order in the second quarter of 2011, with production expected to commence in the third quarter of 2011. The FCCC S2 cutaway joins the FCCC full lineup of motorhome chassis, including FRED, Powerliner III, ecoFRED, XC and MC.
