PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. -- The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission delayed action yesterday on a proposal to give the Port Townsend Public Development Authority (PDA) ownership and management of Fort Worden State Park, writes Peninsula Daily.
Peninsula Daily reports that a public hearing on the proposal, and possible action, is planned at the commission's next meeting, to be held March 29.
Dave Robison, PDA interim director, has said that PDA ownership would open financing avenues that could help pay for the park's continued operation, maintenance and management, reports Peninsula Daily.

I sincerely wish them good luck on this attempt. The network of WW2 tunnels and fortifications near the straight are impressive, historic monuments, and they have done a wonderful job of educating the public and maintaining the buildings of the adjacent Fort. It would be a real shame if they'd have to close down.
