MANTEO, N.C. -- The Virginian-Pilot reports that driving along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore will soon cost motorists $120 a year or $50 a week, the National Park Service announced Wednesday.
NPS staff will begin ticketing beach drivers March 15 -- giving drivers roughly a month to buy permits and watch a seven-minute educational video -- if they don't pay for a windshield sticker or a hanging permit, writes the Virginian-Pilot.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that environmentalists say the new restrictions will better protect bird and turtle nesting habitats.
