Bill would turn Missouri state parks 'green'
By Kelly Cauthorn @ 4:17 AM :: :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: RV Parks

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- After finding similar systems in Texas and Kansas during a conference about renewable energy last year, State Rep. Zachary Wyatt, R-2, proposed a pilot program that would reform a state park to rely completely on renewable energy resources by Aug. 2018, reports the Truman Index.

On Wednesday, House Bill 1076 passed the Special Standing Committee. If passed, the DNR would consult the Missouri Public Service Commission to develop and implement the pilot program, reports the Truman Index.

Wyatt said the decreased cost of running an energy-efficient park will benefit the park system without changing the experience for park visitors, writes the Truman Index. Wyatt also said he would like to eventually see the state's entire parks department running on renewable energy sources.
